PHP, which stands for “PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor” is a widely-used Open Source general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML. Its syntax draws upon C, Java, and Perl, and is easy to learn. The main goal of the language is to allow web developers to write dynamically generated webpages quickly, but you can do much more with PHP.

So if u are familiar with the syntax of C, Java or Perl its just a matter of few hours and u can start creating your own dynamic pages. it’ll be helpful if u know a bit of HTML. because HTML will be used in displaying the data produced by the PHP script (from database queries, user input etc). So before directly jumping on to PHP make sure u have a basic idea about HTML. to learn HTML u’ll get endless resources in the web. just google it. and if u find any good ones dont forget to add them in our links section Wink .

For learning PHP i would recommend u use the official documentation of php available at www.php.net (we’ve some links to the tutorials in the weblinks section of the site). Once you’ve a good tutorial start coding PHP with some softwares which support syntax colouring, IntelliSense etc. I think Dreamweaver MX is the best.

Its really fun learning PHP. its easy and also quick to learn. no much complicated concepts. Just dont restrict to tutorials alone. download sample scripts (most of them are free, unlike that of ASP) from sites like hotscripts.com. These scripts will really help u in developing ur standards.

So if u have some interest in webdesigning dont just restrict urselves to HTML start learning some scripting too. PHP is the best. So keep coding..
